26+ Wedding Garment Parable. The parable of the wedding banquet is no different in this regard. The wedding garment represents anything which is indispensable to a christian, but which the unrenewed heart is not willing to accept, anything which the lord ordains to be a necessary.
The wedding clothes symbolize righteousness. In the historical and cultural context of a jewish wedding feast, guests were expected to wear appropriate attire, often provided by the host. In the gospel of matthew, we read about a guest who is not wearing “a wedding garment,” (22:11) and how the guest is bound hand and foot and expelled from the ceremony.
