Wood buffalo national park said this week the stretch of winter road from moose island, outside fort smith, to fort chipewyan is open. Firefighters conducted a defensive attack and were able to bring the fire under control within a half hour, but completely extinguishing the stubborn blaze took most of the day. The fort mcmurray wildfire was a huge fire that occurred in northeastern alberta back in may of 2016.
