Certainly! Here's a simple sewing pattern for a basic hoodie. This pattern is for a pullover hoodie with a kangaroo pocket and a lined hood.

Materials needed:

  • 2-3 yards of sweatshirt fabric (cotton or fleece)
  • 1/2 yard of lining fabric (cotton or flannel)
  • Coordinating thread
  • Rib knit fabric for cuffs and waistband
  • Cord or drawstring for the hood
  • Grommets (optional)
  • Sewing machine
  • Serger (optional, for finishing seams)
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Measuring tape
  • Iron

Instructions:

  1. Start by preparing your fabric. Wash, dry, and iron it if necessary.
  2. Take your measurements for the hoodie: bust, waist, and hip circumference, as well as arm length, shoulder width, and desired hoodie length.
  3. Based on your measurements, create a pattern for the hoodie. You will need to cut out the following pieces:
    • Front bodice: Cut a rectangle measuring half your bust circumference plus 2 inches for ease, and your desired hoodie length plus 2 inches for hem allowance.
    • Back bodice: Cut a rectangle measuring half your bust circumference plus 2 inches for ease, and your desired hoodie length plus 2 inches for hem allowance.
    • Front kangaroo pocket: Cut a rectangle measuring your desired pocket width plus seam allowance, and your desired pocket height plus seam allowance.
    • Hood: Cut two rectangles measuring your desired hood width plus 1 inch for seam allowance, and your desired hood height plus 2 inches for hem allowance.
    • Sleeve: Cut two rectangles measuring your desired sleeve length plus 1 inch for hem allowance, and half your shoulder width plus 1 inch for ease.
    • Cuffs: Cut two strips of rib knit fabric measuring the desired cuff width plus 1 inch for seam allowance, and the circumference of your wrist plus 1 inch for ease.
    • Waistband: Cut a strip of rib knit fabric measuring the desired waistband width plus 1 inch for seam allowance, and the circumference of your waist plus 1 inch for ease.
  4. Take the front bodice and back bodice pieces. Place them right sides together and align the shoulder seams. Pin them together.
  5. Sew along the pinned shoulder seams with a 1/2 inch seam allowance. If you have a serger, you can use it to finish the raw edges of the seam. Press the seams open with an iron.
  6. Take one sleeve piece and align the curved edge with the armhole of the bodice, right sides together. Pin it in place, matching the shoulder seam.
  7. Sew along the pinned edge with a 1/2 inch seam allowance. If you have a serger, you can use it to finish the raw edges of the seam. Press the seam toward the sleeve.
  8. Repeat steps 6-7 for the second sleeve.
  9. Take the front kangaroo pocket piece and fold it in half widthwise, right sides together. Pin the sides and bottom edges.
  10. Sew along the pinned edges with a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Leave the top edge open. Trim any excess fabric.
  11. Turn the pocket piece right side out. Press the seams with an iron. Topstitch the top edge of the pocket for a clean finish.
  12. Place the pocket on the front bodice, aligning the bottom edge and sides. Pin it in place.
  13. Sew the pocket to the front bodice by sewing along the sides and bottom, close to the edge.
  14. Take the two hood pieces and place them right sides together. Pin along the back edge.
