As of my last update in September 2021, there were several free fanny pack sewing patterns available online. These patterns allow you to create stylish and functional fanny packs that are perfect for carrying your essentials while keeping your hands free. However, the availability of specific patterns might have changed since then, so I recommend conducting a fresh search using your preferred search engine or checking popular sewing pattern websites. To get you started, here's a basic outline of how to create a simple fanny pack:
Materials you'll need:
- Fabric of your choice (cotton, canvas, or nylon work well).
- Matching thread.
- Sewing machine.
- Scissors.
- Zipper (around 7-9 inches long).
- Waistband strap (nylon webbing or fabric strap with buckle).
- Optional: interfacing for added structure.
Instructions:
- Create the pattern:
- Draw a rectangle for the main body of the fanny pack. The dimensions will depend on the size you want your pack to be. For example, a rectangle that is approximately 9 inches wide and 5 inches tall works well.
- Draw a smaller rectangle for the front pocket. The dimensions should be slightly smaller than the main body, for example, around 9 inches wide and 4 inches tall.
- Add seam allowance (usually 1/2 inch) to all sides of both rectangles.
- Cut the fabric: Use the pattern to cut two main body pieces and two front pocket pieces from your chosen fabric. If using interfacing, cut two main body pieces from it as well.
- Attach the front pocket: Take one of the main body pieces and position the front pocket piece on top of it, right sides together. Sew along the top edge to attach the pocket to the main body. Flip the pocket down, and topstitch along the edge to secure it in place.
- Add the zipper: Place the two main body pieces together with the right sides facing each other. Sandwich the zipper in between the top edge of the main body pieces, aligning the zipper teeth with the top edge. Sew along the top to attach the pieces and create the fanny pack's opening. Flip the pieces right side out, and topstitch along the edge to secure the zipper.
- Create the waistband strap: Take the waistband strap material, and sew the ends together to create a loop. If using nylon webbing, you may need to singe the edges with a lighter to prevent fraying.
- Attach the waistband strap: Position the waistband strap on the backside of the fanny pack, aligning it with the top corners. Sew it securely in place.
- Optional: Add additional pockets or embellishments as desired.
That's it! Your free fanny pack sewing pattern is now complete. Customize it with different fabrics, colors, and pocket placements to make it uniquely yours. Happy sewing!
