Creating a sewing pattern for a fanny pack is a great project! Below is a simple pattern that you can follow. Adjustments can be made based on your preferred size and style.
Materials:
- Fabric (main fabric and lining)
- Zipper (around 9-12 inches or as per your preference)
- Webbing or fabric for the belt
- Buckle for the belt
- Interfacing (optional, for added structure)
- Sewing machine
- Thread
- Scissors
- Pins
- Marking tools
Instructions:
Cutting the Fabric:
- Main Body (cut 2 from the main fabric and 2 from the lining):
- Rectangular shape, dimensions (you can adjust as needed): 12 inches (width) x 6 inches (height).
- Zipper Pocket:
- Cut a rectangle from the main fabric and lining: 12 inches (width) x 6 inches (height).
- Cut out a rectangle from the center of both pieces, leaving a border of about 1 inch on all sides.
- Belt (cut 1 from the main fabric):
- Cut a strip, length depending on your waist size plus a few inches for adjustability, and width around 2-3 inches.
- Zipper Tabs (cut 2 from the main fabric):
- Cut two rectangles, around 2 inches by 3 inches.
- Optional: Interfacing:
- Cut pieces for the main body and belt if you want to add extra structure.
Sewing:
- Attach the Zipper:
- Place the zipper right side down on the right side of the main fabric for the pocket.
- Sew along the edges of the cut-out rectangle.
- Repeat for the lining side.
- Flip the fabric through the cut-out, press, and topstitch.
- Attach Zipper Tabs:
- Fold each zipper tab in half lengthwise, press.
- Attach to the ends of the zipper, sandwiching the ends of the zipper between the folded tab.
- Stitch in place.
- Assemble the Main Body:
- Place the main fabric pieces right sides together, and the lining pieces right sides together.
- Stitch around the sides and bottom, leaving the top open.
- If using interfacing, attach it to the main fabric before sewing.
- Attach the Zipper Pocket:
- Align the zipper pocket with the top edge of one of the main body pieces.
- Stitch along the sides and bottom to attach the pocket.
- Attach the Belt:
- Fold the belt piece in half lengthwise, right sides together, and sew along the long edge.
- Turn it right side out.
- Attach the buckle to one end, and sew the other end to the back of the fanny pack.
- Assemble the Fanny Pack:
- Place the main body pieces right sides together.
- Sandwich the belt between the layers at the back.
- Sew along the top edge, making sure not to catch the belt in the seam.
- Finish:
- Turn the fanny pack right side out.
- Topstitch around the top edge for a finished look.
Now you have a basic pattern for a fanny pack! Feel free to customize the dimensions, add pockets, or embellishments according to your preferences.
